The first three verses from Psalm 5 seem to set the tone of a time of prayer with the Lord:
Give ear to my words, O Lord; consider my groaning.
Give attention to the sound of my cry, my God and my Lord, for to you do I pray.
O Lord, in the morning You hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.
Each morning offer your petitions and praises to God and then watch to see what He does. He is certain to hear you and probably surprise you.
